BOTOX® Cosmetic

If you wish to reduce wrinkles and achieve a younger, more refreshed facial appearance, but have reservations about invasive surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be an excellent solution. BOTOX® Cosmetic consists of a naturally occurring protein called botulinum toxin, which found some of its earliest medical applications in treating eyelid spasms and misaligned eyes. It was later discovered that by injecting very small amounts of this protein into facial muscles, the muscles become relaxed, and wrinkles become considerably less visible. Patients who undergo BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment at our Springfield office can expect visible results within a few days. It is especially effective in reducing fine wrinkles at the corners of the eyes (crows’ feet), creases in the forehead, and furrowed brows. JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® is dermal filler, and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by adding volume to the skin. In this way, it is differentiated from BOTOX® injections, which merely reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Its fundamental ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin. As we grow older and endure exposure to sunlight, our natural store of hyaluronic acid becomes depleted, making us more susceptible to deep creases, facial lines, and wrinkles. We offer JUVÉDERM® to Springfield patients who would like to add volume to areas that have begun to show prominent signs of aging. It is especially effective in reducing the vertical lines that develop around the mouth, lines that develop along the corners of the mouth (“marionette lines”), and lines that develop on either side of the nose (the nasolabial folds, sometimes called “laugh lines”). As with BOTOX® Cosmetic, the results are not permanent, but you can expect them to last about a year. After this time, the filler absorbs into the body.
